Walkers are opening ‘sandwich shops’ across the UK later this month

Crisp bigwigs Walkers are planning to open their own sandwich shops across the UK next month. The temporary shops will be a collaboration with a host of independent sandwich places up and down the country.

All the locations have yet to be announced, but they will be opening for definite in Liverpool, Glasgow and Brighton, and menus of which sandwiches - containing Walkers’ various crisps varieties - will also be released nearer the time. The pop-up shops will be open for a week from June 12.

Each shop will embrace its own regional specialities in its special sandwich creations, using crisps including Quavers, Wotsits, and Monster Munch. There will also be a sandwich created by TV chef Max Halley, owner of Max’s Sandwich Shop in London.

Recent polls have concluded that 98% of people feel that crisps make a sandwich better. Just over a third (34%) would rather have them on the side rather, while 27% want their crisps inside their sandwich.

Philippa Pennington at Walkers said: “We believe that a bag of Walkers makes your lunchtime sandwich even more enjoyable, but it’s very clear to us that people feel very strongly about whether or not the crisps should be eaten in their sandwich or on the side.

“Last year the residents of Sandwich voted ‘Crisp In’ as the winning combination, but this year we’re widening the debate to showcase the wide range of crisp and sandwich combinations - from classic Walkers crisps through to Wotsits and Monster Munch!

“With Walkers Sandwich Shops located across the UK, we’re calling on people to head to their nearest shop, taste the sandwiches and have their say online by sharing their favourite combination from the menu, or favourite crisps to enjoy in a sandwich – whether that’s Wotsits, Monster Munch, Quavers, or classic Walkers.”
