Waitrose has followed in the footsteps of Marks and Spencer and Tesco to remove "best before" dates on a number of fresh food products in a bid to reduce food waste. Nearly 500 items will see dates scrapped from packaging from as early as Septemberr.
Packaged fruit and vegetables will no longer include a best before date, meaning customers will have to to use their own judgment about when food has gone off.
The grocery giant claims the move will eliminate millions of baskets' worth of food waste, by preventing people throwing away products that are still edible.
