Voto Latino, a nonprofit organization in the United States, has pledged to support Vice President Kamala Harris in her presidential bid, apart from spending $44 million for the same.
This nonprofit organization plays an important role in Latino politics. It had previously supported President Joe Biden and strongly opposed former Donald Trump.
María Teresa Kumar, the president of Voto Latino, said, "As far right extremists seek to demonize immigrants, shatter our democracy, and curtail our rights at every turn, Vice President Kamala Harris has led the defense of our multicultural democracy," The Hill reported.
"Her long-standing support for working Americans, voting rights, DACA, and for women's rights have done so much good for our country and the Latino community — and it has never been more important."
Voto Latino's campaign will be traveling across the country this year unlike the one it did in 2020, which was mostly digital, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
"In 2020, Voto Latino endorsed Joe Biden in the face of an unprecedented threat to our community and our country. His exceptional term has earned our admiration and respect," Kumar noted. "Now more than ever we must unite our efforts to make sure Trump is not elected in November."
She noted that the stakes have never been higher, claiming that if Trump returned to office, then he will "execute his anti-democracy and extreme platform."
Furthermore, she claimed that the former president "will continue dehumanizing immigrants and will deploy our military to round up people who they deem undocumented."
Kumar noted that Trump would also increase the number of detention centers, making them unsafe for everyone including U.S. citizens.
Voto Latino is expected to raise and spend $44 million, compared to $36 million four years ago. The group will focus on young Hispanic voters with campaigns against disinformation, and efforts for voter registration and mobilization in Nevada, Arizona, Texas, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.
Kumar highlighted that the vice president has been a friend of Voto Latino for over two decades as she has been "a supporter, a counselor, and a proponent of equal rights for the most marginalized among us, demonstrating that she will be the President for all Americans."
Aside from Voto Latino, many more groups like the UnidosUS Action Fund, Latino Victory Fund, Bold PAC -- the Congressional Hispanic Caucus campaign arm -- Nuestro PAC, Poder PAC and CASA in Action have pledged their support for Harris.
