Vogue Williams' mum reveals the one item of clothing she would never wear

Sandra Wilson says she has her celebrity daughter Vogue Williams to thank for her successful fashion Instagram account.

Sandra has over 36,800 followers on social media where she documents her love of clothing.

She told Dublin Live: “Vogue put a picture of me up and her followers said ‘your mum should do Instagram’, but I said I wouldn’t really have a clue. But she said that I should."

Much like her influencer daughter, Sandra is very striking and would often get stopped in the shops because of her beautiful outfits.

“I enjoy putting things together. I get a great kick out of it. It’s lovely getting compliments too, I think it’s nice for people to see how to dress things up and put it in different ways.

“I’d be in the supermarket and people would say that I look amazing, so I thought maybe it’s because I like to wear a hat. Then I thought I’ll do it, I started putting up pictures and people liked them.”

Sandra and her daughter have very similar taste, but there is one item in Vogue's wardrobe she would avoid.

She said: “I would see something and I’d send Vogue a picture and she’ll say she’s already seen it. We’d have very similar tastes in a lot of things but not the torn jeans, I’d never wear such a thing.

From a young age Sandra was inspired by her mum's sense of style.

“My mum used to love cashmere and now I love it. It’s in your head somewhere. My mum loved layering things and so do I.

“She would’ve over done the pearls, she’d probably go to the pound shop and buy a load of pearls and have about ten things around her neck. But she always looked very stylish."

Vogue recently gave Sandra another grandchild after giving birth to baby Otto on April 18. However, the grandmother won't be sending any outfits to the newborn, and she she never buys clothes for Gigi or Theodore.

“I wouldn’t buy Vogue any clothes for her children. I was just thinking that I’ve never seen Gigi in the same outfit twice.

“I have two other grandchildren, Jeanie and William. Jeanie has her own set of ideas on clothes. I’ll give her money to look at things, she’s only six and she’d be looking in Zara if she could.

"She’d come over here and she’d be putting on my hats and necklaces. She’ll say: ‘we’ll take a picture, Nana’.”

The Howth woman says she loves to experiment and enjoys playing with her outfits, however right now she is limited in her fashion choices due to a recent accident.

She said: “You have to put a little bit of effort into what you’re wearing and try different things. Why not? You’re only going this way once, you might as well enjoy yourself.

“I think black is a very safe option. I’m wearing a black boot at the moment because I broke my ankle. I'm very restricted on what I can wear and it’s annoying me because I’ve to wear something wide over it.

Sandra says there is one item that can really pull an outfit together.

“I always tell people to put a hat on. There’s a hat for everybody, it makes an outfit, it makes you stand out.

"I love colour coordinating things and adding things, to me it’s like painting a picture. It can take me a little time to get ready, I try on different things until I get it right.

“You can be quite lazy or you can be stuck in a rut. Add a little bit of colour to something, put yourself out there, push yourself a bit and try something different, experiment."

And what's one basic everyone should have in their wardrobe?

“A nice long creamy coat is lovely, they take you a lot of places. You never know what the day is going to be like in Ireland.”
