A viral France riots image shared by police unions has been flagged as AI-made or edited, while reports of an elderly couple's robbery remain unconfirmed (Credit: Alotrobo/Pexels)

A viral France riots image purporting to show an elderly couple stripped and surrounded by rioters has been flagged as AI-generated or altered after circulating on X during unrest across France on 18 October 2026.

The image was also shared by a French police officers' union, despite questions about its authenticity.
