Vinted Is Finally Launching In Australia So Prepare To Shop Your Vintage Heart Out

Vinted Australia Launch

Ooft, we love a good secondhand find. The dopamine hit you get when you find the perfect vintage piece is unmatched. And if you’re reading this and wildly nodding your head in agreement, we’ve got some bloody good news for you. Europe’s favourite resale app, Vinted, is entering the Aussie market, and everyday thrifters on Reddit and TikTok are losing their minds.

From July 1, Vinted will open its virtual doors to Aussies with a direct line to our friends selling the goods in the UK. This means UK members may see eligible items from Australian sellers, and vice versa. This gives members in both markets access to a wider selection of items and the opportunity to buy and sell with more people.

And friends, if you’ve ever been thrift shopping in Europe, you’ll know this is good, very good.

So, what is Vinted and how does it work?

Vinted is a peer-to-peer marketplace (kinda like Depop or eBay) that allows users to buy and sell second-hand goods directly with one another. The difference between Vinted and other marketplaces is that it is completely free for sellers. You can list your pre-loved fashion and homewares at zero cost and keep 100 per cent of your earnings!!!

Using the platform is pretty straightforward too — sellers simply photograph and upload items directly through the app, set their own prices and communicate with buyers within the platform. Payments are also handled through the platform, so buyers are covered by Vinted’s Buyer Protection program. That means if an item is lost, damaged during transit or significantly different from its description, refunds can be easily handled.

Apparently, Vinted has also partnered with Australia Post to make dropping off and collecting Vinted parcels easy, any day of the week. Payment and shipping are built straight into the app, so once an item sells, sellers receive a prepaid shipping label and drop it off at their nearest Australia Post location. Shipping rates will depend on the parcel’s size, and the costs will be provided at checkout.

Is Vinted free to sell on?

Yep, as we mentioned before, Vinted does not charge sellers listing or selling fees. Instead, buyers pay a ‘Buyer Protection fee’ (5 per cent of the item price + $0.70) that helps cover customer support and transaction security.

Will Australians be able to buy from international sellers on Vinted?

Vinted has not yet confirmed the full scope of its global shipping, but we do know we have a sweet, direct pipeline to the UK right at launch. The best part? Vinted automatically handles the customs paperwork behind the scenes. There are just a couple of ground rules for cross-continental thrifting: items have to weigh under 2kg, and if you’re buying from the UK, the item value needs to be under £110. If you’re selling to the UK, items must be valued under $920 AUD.

Where can you download Vinted?

You can download Vinted from your app store right now. Hot tip: While the official grand opening isn’t until July 1, Vinted have quietly begun a soft launch. A colleague of mine downloaded the app last night and was already able to score a vintage find. (Some early users are even spotting $0 promotional shipping rates during the rollout phase!) Do with that information what you will.

You can check out the Australia site here.
