Australian cyclist Jay Vine has the overall lead in the Tour Down Under after finishing third on stage three.
The newly crowned national time trial champion was in the lead trio that broke clear on the steep Corkscrew climb - the feature of Friday's 116.8km stage from Norwood to Campbelltown.
Spaniard Pello Bilbao (Bahrain Victorious) won the stage ahead of British rider Simon Yates (Jayco AlUla), with Vine (UAE Team Emirates) immediately behind them.
The previous race leader, Australian Rohan Dennis (Jumbo Visma), cracked on Corkscrew and finished one minute 24 seconds off the pace, his overall hopes gone.
Vine leads Bilbao overall by 15 seconds, with Yates another second further back in third place. The Santos tour title now appears to be between those three riders.
Yates' Australian teammate Michael Matthews, whose overall hopes were dashed by a mechanical problem in stage two, led the bunch sprint for fourth place at 28 seconds.
Vine and Yates broke clear on the 2.3km Corkscrew climb in the Adelaide Hills and Bilbao bridged the gap to them.
They maintained their advantage in the 5.8km high-speed downhill run to the finish, where Bilbao outsprinted his two rivals.
Italian Gianni Moscon (Astana) crashed and was forced out of the race with a suspected broken collarbone.
Dane Mikkel Honore (EF Education) and Moscon's Italian teammate Fabio Felline broke away, but the peloton were never going to let them stay in front on such a key stage and they were caught well before the start of Corkscrew.
