If it is possible to have a less favoured side of somewhere as utterly sublime as Lake Como, I concede it may have to be the eastern shore.
At the Villa Làrio hotel where we were staying the sun rising over the hilly wedge of land between the two legs of the wishbone shaped lake — does not hit the swimming pool until 11am. At least not in September it doesn’t. And anyone who fancies a sun kissed dip in the waters of Como itself has to wait even longer — until noon.
