Vile Edinburgh man caught on camera shouting horrific abuse at non binary person

A vile Edinburgh man has been caught on camera shouting abuse at a non binary person in unprovoked abuse which took place on a busy street in broad daylight.

Pigeon Woods was travelling home from work past Elm Row when a middle aged white man with a local accent started to hurl insults regarding their sexuality and gender-making assumptions purely based on what they were wearing.

The 20-year-old explained they enjoy wearing bright rainbow colours and it has nothing to do with their sexuality or gender. Yet the man appeared to be triggered by the bright colours and aggressively claimed they were "shoving it down his throat" while making homophobic remarks.

Pigeon reported the incident to Police Scotland who are understood to be investigating and shared a video to make others in the area aware of the individual.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Pigeon said: "I’ve reported to the police last night and they’re coming tomorrow to take a full report on it. The guy only sat outside it for a minute or so before walking off.

"I was just on my way home and this guy starts on at me and starts being extremely homophobic. Saying he’s sick to death of these gays and I'm a disgusting lesbian who 'probably goes around scissoring.' He was also going on about my outfit."

They explained: "I wear a lot of rainbow colours as it’s simply just what I like, doesn’t really have anything to do with my gender or sexuality and he was shouting about how we’re shoving it down his throat. He genuinely was just filled with so much hate it was horrible."

The Scottish Government defines hate crime as an offence committed against a person or property that is motivated by ‘malice or ill-will towards an identifiable social group’. An individual is likely to have been a victim of a hate crime if they believe that someone has targeted them because of a prejudice towards an aspect of their identity.
