Viktor Tsyhankov: What Arsenal target has already said about transfer 'dream'

Viktor Tsyhankov has already made his feelings on a summer transfer clear amid reports that Arsenal want to sign the Girona winger.

Transfer speculation that emerged from Spain on Tuesday evening claimed the Gunners were weighing up a move for a player also mentioned in connection with the likes of AC Milan, Bayern Munich and north London rivals Tottenham.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is rumoured to be a big fan of Tsyhankov, who scored eight goals and registered seven assists in all competitions this season as LaLiga surprise package Girona led the way at the Spanish top-flight summit before eventually finishing third behind Real Madrid and Barcelona to qualify for the Champions League for the very first time in their history.

Tsyhankov has scored 11 times in 53 total appearances since moving to Estadi Montilivi in a €5million deal in January 2023, having previously netted 94 goals in 236 outings for Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kiev between 2016-23.

The 26-year-old’s stock is only expected to rise further this summer as he, along with Girona team-mate and top scorer Artem Dovbyk, prepares to head to Euro 2024 with Ukraine, who qualified via the play-offs and are in Group E along with Belgium, Slovakia and Romania.

Any potential transfer suitors may be wise to try and get a deal done before the tournament begins, with Tsyhankov - under contract until 2027 with a release clause said to be worth around £25.5m - recently leaving the door open to a potential summer exit though insisting he would also be perfectly happy to stay put.

“All players dream big, they want to play in big clubs, top leagues. I’m not unique in this,” he said in an interview with Spanish newspaper AS last week when quizzed on transfer interest from the likes of Bayern.

“Since I was young I wanted to play at a high level and of course I like that there are important clubs in Europe looking out for me. I don’t really know what will happen. In football anything can happen.

“Maybe I was able to play my last game, but I don’t know what will happen to my future.

“Girona has given me a lot and I am very grateful. Furthermore, my family is very happy here and I am very comfortable.

“If I’m still here in Girona, perfect, because I’m very happy and I enjoy what I do. If in the end the future says that I have to leave, I want to do it through the front door.”

Tsyhankov also insisted he was now fully focused on the Euros with Ukraine, so any transfer may have to wait for the time being.

Arsenal are expected to make another significant splash in the transfer market this summer after being pipped to the Premier League title by reigning champions Manchester City in agonising fashion on the final day of the campaign.
