As the CPI(M) Party Congress progresses to its final day, speculation is rife about who will replace the outgoing members of the party Polit Bureau (PB) and the Central Committee (CC).
Hanan Mollah, Biman Bose, and S. Ramachandran Pillai, will be exempted from the new Polit Bureau, as they have crossed the stipulated age limit of 75 years. Surjya Kanta Mishra, it is heard, could be excluded too, citing ill-health.
Ashok Dhawale, president of the All India Kisan Sabha that played a role in the peasants’ agitation against the farm laws, and A. Vijayaraghavan, LDF convenor and Central Committee member from Kerala, are billed to make it to the top body of the party. The name of Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami, from Kashmir, is also on cards.
Other names doing the rounds are of Amra Ram, vice president of the All India Kisan Sabha, and K. Radhakrishnan, Central Committee member. A.K. Balan’s name is also being spoken about. If the party decides to have more women in PB, PK. Sreemathy or K.K. Shailaja could make it.
Meanwhile, it is believed that K.N. Balagopal and P. Rajeeve are sure-shot candidates for elevation to the Central Committee. Among women, T.N. Seema or C.S. Sujatha could make it.
The party may also be discussing elevating some young leaders to the PB. If that happens, some of the young CC leaders could be considered for promotion. The party is expected to rejuvenate its Central Secretariat, which will be constituted sometime later.
