Video shows moment Midlothian crooks sneak into family home to steal boy's gift

A shocking video captures the moment that left a 14-year-old boy “beyond gutted” after a pair of crooks stole his brand-new £5000 electric moped.

Kameron Kerr had his dream present snatched from the shed of his family home in Mayfield, Midlothian, last week.

The video shows the two hooded thugs creeping into the back garden just after 2am on Wednesday.

After wrestling away for quite some time, the duo eventually manage to break the lock and watch as the doors swing open, revealing Kameron’s prized Talaria Black 2022.

While one thief rushes to seemingly open the back gate, the other grabs the special gift and makes a dart for the exit.

Footage from the front of the house shows the pair sprinting away, while one cluthes the moped in both hands.

The cruel pair rush over the grass and into the darkness, leaving Kameron distraught after not even getting the chance to use the bike before it was stolen.

Kameron’s uncle, Gareth Wynn, told Edinburgh Live : “He’s absolutely beyond gutted. He’s been asking for it two years – it’s what he really wanted.

“His dad had saved up the money and it was purchased at the end of October. He was going to get it as a Christmas present and his birthday is just before, so I think it was for both really.

“It never even had a mile on it. He was so excited to have it but it was being kept in the shed.

“I think they (the thieves) must have seen my sister’s social media post and that’s how they knew to break into the shed.

“A lot of people have been getting in touch to say it’s happened to them. It’s all going up, gangs of them are doing it. It’s really shocking.”

There were 1117 reported bike thefts in the capital in 2021, with the greatest number of incidents taking place in Leith.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Around 7.10am on 16 November, 2022, police received a report of a theft of a bike from Stone Crescent, Mayfield. Enquiries are ongoing.”
