In a new ITV1 documentary there are emotional scenes as Line of Duty star Vicky McClure visits Normandy with her grandfather, who served in the Second World War. She became very emotional while visiting the British Normandy Memorial and said the circumstance hit her "like a tonne of bricks".
The documentary, Vicky McClure: My Grandad's War, is a one-off special to mark the anniversary of D-Day. Together with her grandfather Ralph, they revisit the Normandy beaches where Ralph was part of the D-Day battle.
They also visit the British Normandy Memorial, where Vicky becomes very emotional as they look for the name of her grandad's friend. She said: "It's making me cry! I felt embarrassed. The thing is crying on documentaries like this makes it seem like you've been given a tear stick...it's just hit me like a tonne of bricks really."

She added that the British Normandy Memorial was "the most beautiful place ever". Through her tears, she said: "This place is a very unique place, it is the most peaceful place I've ever been. Just seeing all the names and ages. Knowing now, more than I did, it's hard because he's just always been my grandad...if his name was on that wall I wouldn't be here...this has just completely floored me."
Ralph also admitted he was getting emotional while at the memorial. As he attended wearing his medals, many others visiting the memorial went up to Ralph to thank him personally for his service, creating more emotional moments.
Also in the documentary Vicky and Ralph visit the only surviving example of the type of landing craft he trained and crossed the Channel on, and discover aerial pictures believed to show his flotilla landing at Normandy.
