Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a significant address on Thursday regarding the historic prisoner swap that took place. She acknowledged her collaboration with President Joe Biden in securing the release of wrongly imprisoned Americans Paul Whelan, Evan Gershkovich, Alsu Kurmasheva, and US permanent resident Vladimir Kara-Murza.

Harris, who is the presumptive Democratic nominee, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside President Biden in bringing back over 70 Americans in the past three-and-a-half years. She emphasized the relief she felt knowing that the distressing ordeal of these individuals has finally come to an end.

Speaking to the press on a tarmac in Houston before departing for Washington, Harris shared, “Over many years, President Biden and I, along with our team, have engaged in intricate diplomatic negotiations to repatriate wrongly detained Americans. Our commitment to securing their release never wavered.”

She further stated, “Today, despite the hardships they endured, I find solace in the fact that their harrowing experience has concluded.” Harris is scheduled to meet with the freed Americans later in the day in Washington.
