Vermont has become the first U.S. state to ban paraquat, a widely used and highly toxic herbicide, with lawmakers citing concerns about a potential link to Parkinson’s disease.
Advocates are calling the move a major milestone that could push other states to follow suit in efforts to reduce exposure to the neurological disorder that affects about 1 million Americans and progressively impairs movement.
