Venezuelan Migrants Arrested For Carjacking NYPD Officer In Harlem

New York City Police Department (NYPD) police officers

According to reports from the New York Post, two suspects believed to be Venezuelan migrants were apprehended for allegedly carjacking an off-duty New York Police Department officer in Harlem.

The incident took place around 11:30 p.m. on a Friday at West 146 Street and Bradhurst Avenue. The suspects, armed with guns, approached the officer who was seated inside his personal 2020 BMW. One of the suspects reportedly knocked the officer's gun out of his hand, demanded the keys to the vehicle, and then fled the scene in the stolen car.

Authorities were able to track down the stolen vehicle, which was found abandoned less than a mile away with the officer's iPad still inside. Following an investigation, the police located the two suspects in the vicinity and recovered two firearms.

The suspects have been identified as Jomar Crespo, 21, and Jose Rivera, 20, both from Waterbury, Connecticut. They are facing multiple charges including robbery, grand larceny of a vehicle, criminal possession of a machine gun, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of stolen property, making rapid-fire modifications to a gun, and unlawful possession of an ammo feed device.

While the NYPD did not provide a statement regarding the incident, local reports have confirmed the charges brought against the two individuals.
