Canal Street’s posh Velvet Hotel is unveiling a huge new expansion, just in time for Pride Weekend. The hotel has added 17 new luxury suites, and will relaunch this bank holiday.
The hotel will boast a new redesigned reception area, and a brand new penthouse suite with two duplex floors, vaulted ceilings and its own private bar, set over 40 square metres.
Its new bedrooms and suites will also come with super king-size beds, smart 65-inch televisions, air conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi, black-out blinds and ambient lighting systems.

Meanwhile, the decor features exposed brick, to echo the building’s previous use as a velvet factory, and the new bathrooms have walk-in rainfall showers, freestanding baths and underfloor heating.
Kim Eivind Krohn, owner of KRO Hospitality, which runs the hotel, said: “The success of Velvet demonstrated that we needed more accommodation, with occupancy above 90% yearly. When the opportunity arose to purchase the freehold of the neighbouring number three Canal Street, we knew this would be the perfect way to expand and enhance Velvet Hotel, the guest experience and bring the former office building back to life.”
The group is also behind the soon-to-open Forty Seven hotel on Peter Street, which is also home to Indian restaurant Asha’s and the new Peterman cocktail bar.
