A park that refuses to look like a park
The first thing Velavadar takes from you is your reference points. Every wildlife sanctuary you've visited before had something to hide behind, a sal forest, a rocky ridge, a river bend where the animals could disappear. Velavadar has none of that. The Blackbuck National Park in Gujarat's Bhavnagar district is, almost entirely, flat open grassland. The horizon sits so far away that you can watch a herd of blackbuck for ten minutes before they reach you, and another ten after they pass.
