Venture capital firms have become “somewhat marginal” in the artificial intelligence investment cycle given the scale of capital required, and large enterprises should increasingly fund AI companies alongside traditional investors, Peak XV Partners managing director Shailendra Singh said on Saturday.
“Every large enterprise should be investing in AI,” Singh said at The Economic Times World Leaders Forum 2026 held in New Delhi on August 21-22. Pointing to HCLTech’s investment in Indian foundational model startup Sarvam AI, and global bets such as Amazon’s backing of Anthropic, he said corporate balance sheets can deploy capital at a scale most venture funds cannot match.
