Spear Interactive has shared a new development update for Varsity High School Football, giving players a clearer sense of where things stand as the team continues to build out the project. The studio says the full 7on7 gameplay loop should be ready for the next alpha build playtest, letting players choose teams, call plays, manage downs and changes of possession.
While Varsity is still planned as an 11v11 game, the focus on 7on7 right now gives the team room to refine quarterback, receiver and defensive back interactions while line play continues to take shape.

The latest mocap session centered on defensive back work, bringing in new swats, interceptions and juke animations that are now being worked into gameplay. The team also introduced its first set of 48 team logo options, which can be customized with different colors for anyone building out their own squads.
The winter Patreon playtest is set to feature early 7on7 gameplay, multi-season Dynasty simulation, coach schemes, tendencies and a test of the community file share server.
Patreon signups run from November 14 through December 19 with the playtest scheduled for December 20 through January 4. Those interested in joining the playtest can sign up and back the project through Patreon. While the full release is planned for Xbox and PlayStation, testing is currently limited to PC on Steam.
