Investors who leave their Queensland properties vacant for more than six months of the year would be slugged five per cent of the value under a proposal by the Greens.
The party will introduce a private members bill to state parliament on Thursday for the scheme pitched as one solution to the housing crisis.
"For too long, successive governments have propped up a housing system that favours profit for wealthy investors rather than housing for everyday Queenslanders," Greens MP for South Brisbane Amy MacMahon said.
