Dehradun: Forest fires raging through most parts of Uttarakhand began showing signs of abating on Sunday, as rain brought down flames in most regions, including Dehradun.
However, forest fires continued in Kumaon and Garhwal districts of the hill state. Forest and fire department officials are still on alert, trying to control the flames in Nainital, Bhimtal, Ranibagh, Jyolikot, Kotabag, Betalghat regions.
Yesterday, forest fires reached Nainital, sending smoke billowing through the hill town. Army helicopters were pressed into service to aid the fire-fighting efforts.
