SHAMLI: Police booked a 38-year-old man Mohd Imran of Gangeru village on Tuesday for allegedly giving triple talaq to his wife Sadma Bano, 33, after she refused to convert from Sunni to Shia Islam.
According to the FIR filed by Bano at Kairana police station, seven months ago, her in-laws converted from Sunni to Shia Islam. Since then, they were pressuring her to do the same. When she refused, Imran gave her triple talaq. Bano, mother of four, also alleged physical abuse and death threat by her husband and his family.
SHO Anil Kaparwan said, “A case has been registered against Imran and his seven family members.” The accused were booked under relevant sections of IPC and the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019.
