KANPUR: A leopard which was recently rescued from UP's Bijnor district has died at Etawah Lion Safari. The leopard died on Saturday but the authorities disclosed its death on Monday.
Sources said the leopard had strayed into a village in Bijnor and attacked a man. In retaliation, villagers had attacked it with sticks. It was rescued by the forest department and brought to the Etawah Safari on August 12. Reports said the big cat was being treated at the Safari hospital for internal injuries it had suffered prior to being rescued.
Safari’s deputy director Jai Prakash said the big cat succumbed to the internal injuries. “Leopard was being treated at Safari hospital but could not be saved despite the best efforts of the veterinarians,” he added.
The leopard was cremated on Monday in the presence of Safari officials.
Recently five lion cubs and a bear had also died at the Etawah Safari.
