Uttar Pradesh govt to double MBBS seats in five years

LUCKNOW: To address human resource gaps in health system, the Uttar Pradesh government has fixed a target to double the number of medical seats from existing 3,500 to 7,000 over the next five years. The government has also pledged to increase the number of PG seats in medical colleges to 3,000 over the next five years.

In a statement, the government said that instructions in this regard were given by chief minister Yogi Adityanath during the departmental review recently.

“The government is committed to provide quality healthcare services to the people and steps are being taken to fill the gaps in the system,” the spokesperson said.

Officials in the medical education department said the government will develop a resource of 14,500 nurses and 3,600 paramedical staff, something which had been ignored by the previous governments.

The government has also decided to make use of technology to provide medical consultations through mobile application and call centres.
