LUCKNOW: Striding towards another vaccine milestone, Uttar Pradesh became the first state in India to have administered more than 25 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine.
As per data from CoWin portal updated till 7pm on Monday, at least 25.05 crore out of total 162.7 crore doses administered in the country are from UP. This means that 15.3% of the vaccine used in the country to mitigate coronavirus pandemic was consumed in Uttar Pradesh.
An official statement issued by the government said that other states in India’s top five were way behind UP. In Maharashtra, which is UP’s nearest contender, 14.64 crore doses have been given. It is followed by Bengal (11.87 crore), Bihar (11.01 crore) and Madhya Pradesh (10.87 crore).
9.6cr beneficiaries out of 68.7cr fully jabbed in India are from UP
In terms of fully vaccinated population, 9.6 crore out of 68.7 crore people in India are from UP.
Additional chief secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad said 97.5% of the state adult population has taken the first dose while over 66% is fully vaccinated.
The total number of doses administered in Uttar Pradesh includes over 81.5 lakh adolescents and 8.48 lakh precaution dose beneficiaries.
Reviewing the Covid-19 situation in the state, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed health officials to ensure cent percent coverage of the entire eligible population before the state goes to poll.
He also took stock of the precaution dose to be administered to poll staff to ensure safety during election.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath also urged people to shun fear and get vaccinated at the earliest.
He also reiterated that the vaccine has helped a lot in keeping Covid-19 deaths under control. Health officials said the performance of Uttar Pradesh on the immunization front was exceptional over the past four weeks. Of the total 25 crore doses administered in the state, 5 crore (or one-fifth of the total doses) have been administered in January alone.
