Rush’s fifth album A Farewell To Kings celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2017. To mark the release of a deluxe edition, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson told Prog about recording al fresco, the literature and films that inspired them, Minimoogs, double-neck guitars and the epic one-take wonder that is Xanadu.

It’s a rare day of sunshine in the Welsh countryside. The residential Rockfield Studios in Monmouthshire is a block of buildings – the old stables, filled with glass sheets, act as an echo chamber – set as a quadrangle around a courtyard.
