Researchers at Keck Medicine of USC have launched a clinical trial to test whether a blood test can pick up signs of breast cancer at its earliest stages. The trial will evaluate the test alongside standard mammograms and is funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, according to a Keck Medicine of USC announcement on Oct. 15.
No results are available yet. The trial is in phase 1, an early stage of testing, and the researchers stress that the test is still being studied. It does not replace mammograms or breast biopsies.
