Coco Gauff was named the United Cup MVP. She did not drop a set throughout the tournament, but her most impressive win came in the final against Iga Swiatek. The 6-4, 6-4 straight-set win is her second in two months against Swiatek, the other being at the 2024 WTA Finals, which Gauff won.
This is Gauff’s first United Cup but certainly not her last. In the trophy presentation, she talked about how much she enjoyed the camaraderie of the US team, especially in pressure situations.
Taylor Fritz is a United Cup veteran and a member of the 2023 United Cup championship team. His match with Hubert Hurkacz was high-quality tennis which Fritz wisely noted in his speech that could have gone either way. Fritz emphasized the small margin of difference between the two teams which was evident and made for exciting tennis for fans to watch.
This is Poland’s second consecutive United Cup runner-up finish. Last year, they fell to Italy in the finals.
Gauff’s level this early in the season is amazing. Though Aryna Sabalenka is the 2025 Brisbane International champion and a two-time defending Australian Open champion, it would surprise no one watching her play in the United Cup if she is in the mix at the latter stages of the Australian Open and could potentially dethrone the practically perfect Sabalenka in Australia.
