US Department of Justice charges Hamas leaders over October 7 attack on Israel

The United States has charged multiple Hamas leaders in connection with the group's deadly October 7 attack on Israel. The US Department of Justice announced indictments against six Hamas members, accusing them of "conspiracy to provide material support for acts of terrorism" along with six other counts.

The Justice Department announced criminal charges Tuesday against Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and other senior militants in connection with the Oct. 7, 2023, rampage in Israel, marking the first effort by American law enforcement to formally call out the masterminds of the attack.
