From persistent heat and high pressure across the western United States to a major pressure shift unfolding over Europe, the opening days of August are beginning to reveal the atmospheric fingerprint of an unusually powerful warming event developing thousands of miles away in the Pacific Ocean.
According to Severe Weather Europe website, a rapidly strengthening El Niño is increasingly influencing large-scale weather patterns across the Northern Hemisphere, and long-range models suggest it could eventually reach the extreme category popularly known as a “Super El Niño”.
