The US Defense Department has taken proactive measures by deploying additional assets to the Middle East region in response to potential threats from Iran. A defense official has confirmed that this move is aimed at strengthening regional deterrence efforts and enhancing force protection for US troops.
The Pentagon is focusing on reinforcing air defenses for American forces stationed in Iraq and Syria. These troops have faced numerous attacks from Iran-backed proxy forces in recent months, with over 100 incidents reported between October and February. In January, three US service members lost their lives in an attack at the Tower 22 base in Jordan when a drone breached US air defenses.
