Tributes are being paid to the actor Tony Todd, who has died aged 69 after a career starring in films such as Candyman, Final Destination, The Rock and Platoon.
Todd died at home on Friday after a long illness, his wife Fatima told the Hollywood Reporter.
New Line Cinema, which produced the Final Destination franchise, paid tribute with a touching message on Instagram.
“The industry has lost a legend,” the post read. “We have lost a cherished friend. Rest in peace, Tony.”
Rel Dowdell, who directed Todd in 2012 film Changing the Game, added: “Tony was a masterful actor who was truly chameleonic; he prepared for every role with the utmost meticulousness.
“He was truly one of a kind.”
Todd is survived by Fatima and their two children Alex and Ariana. His sister Monique Dupree is also an accomplished actress.
Born in Washington DC in 1954, Todd was an esteemed actor who had been in the game for more than 40 years and has more than 250 credits according to his IMDB profile.
He is known for his hulking 6 foot 5 inch frame as well as his charismatic performances, not least for playing the titular role in 1992 horror film Candyman.
For this role he was nominated for two awards, including the 2022 Critics Choice Award for Best Villain, while he also won acclaim for voicing Venom in a Spider-Man video game.
