An urgent warning has been given to people who use a heated hairbrush and dryer. The UK government has issued the product safety warning to the public as the device can catch fire during normal use.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has told the public to stop using a heated hairbrush and dryer branded ‘One Step model SM-5250’. The product was given a Safety Gate alert in 2020 but the OPSS has since identified a number of similar models that pose the same risk.
They found that these products are still being sold through online marketplaces. As a result, the public has been asked to check the design of any heated hairbrushes in their home.

If the hairbrush is similar in design to the recalled product, people must stop using it immediately and contact the seller for a refund. The warning also covers heated hairbrushes that are under a different brand.
It comes after the OPSS tested models purchased through online marketplaces in recent weeks. All products they tested were found to be non-compliant and a number caught fire during testing.
OPSS Chief Executive Graham Russell said: "OPSS is issuing this urgent warning to the public because we believe there is real danger that these products will cause serious harm if used. The fact that they are still available for sale two years after the initial alert is a matter that we are currently investigating."
The 2020 report found that the product was insufficient against heat meaning the hairbrush could overheat causing some parts to melt or catch fire in normal use. The model was a mains powered black and pink hair brush with heating function.
The product by One Step was sold online, in particular via Amazon, with the code X00166YH09 and the following ASIN numbers: B085FRYYNL, X00166YH09, B07SLB3M5N, B07Y81MSX3, B07TM2KV1C.
