Urgent Primark warning as baby items pulled over safety fears

Primark shoppers are being warned over a number of baby items that have now been pulled from shelves.

The retailer is urging customers to return the products to stores for a full refund. Primark said its a number of its baby and toddler plates "do not meet its usual high standards for safety".

Primark warns its bunny character wooden plate, bear character wooden plate, and rainbow wooden plate "have been found to release trace amounts of lead and formaldehyde at levels higher than EU regulation permitted levels".

It comes after its Winnie the Pooh baby plates were recalled earlier this year for the same reason. Which? said: "Despite only being found in trace amounts, the levels of lead and formaldehyde exceeded those permitted by EU regulations and may pose a safety risk if ingested.".

Primark said it has the "safety of our customers at the forefront of our minds". It is now inviting shoppers to return any of the items to any store for a full refund.

Which items are affected?

  • Bunny Character Wooden Plate (Kimball no. 8096001), on sale from October 7, 2021
  • Bear Character Wooden Plate (Kimball no. 8096002), on sale from October 27, 2021
  • Rainbow Wood Plate (Kimball no. 7981401), on sale from May 29, 2022

Which? has advised anyone who has any of the plates to "stop using them immediately".
