A child has reportedly been taken from an abandoned farm in Trowbridge, leading police to launch an urgent appeal.
Officers say children playing nearby witnessed the incident of a youngster being put into a van before being driven away.
An investigation has been launched after a child was picked up from the abandoned Green Lane Farm yesterday between 5pm and 7pm.
Wiltshire Police are asking anyone who may have picked up the child to identify themselves.
Children playing nearby have reported a van arriving via Godley Lane and taking a young child away from the farm.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Trowbridge Police emphasised that they were trying to ascertain the facts and "keeping an open mind" at this stage.
They said: "We are appealing for anyone who has picked up a child from the abandoned Green Lane Farm in Trowbridge yesterday (14/09) between 5pm and 7pm to identify themselves to us.
"Children playing nearby have reported a van arriving via Godley Lane and taking a young child away from the farm.
"We are working hard to ascertain the facts and are keeping an open mind at this stage."
Just after 4pm, the force confirmed no children have been reported missing in the last 24 hours.
