Live updates as motorway M62 closed after crash

There is heavy traffic on the motorway this morning due to a lane closure.

The M62 is blocked from J11 A574 Birchwood Way (Birchwood) to J10 M6 J21A (Croft Interchange) due to a crash.

Westbound on the M62 traffic is building, with currently delays of 50 minutes against expected journey times.

Emergency services including motorway police are at the scene of the multi-vehicle crash. Traffic officers and in attendance and recovery agents are on their way to the scene of the crash.

There are current delays of 60 minutes and 7 miles of congestion. Follow our live updates here.

Cannabis farm gardener covered in blood after hammer attack by rival gang

A cannabis farm gardener was left covered in blood after being attacked with hammers when a rival gang broke in.

Paul Ryding, 54, was found covered in blood when police arrived after a neighbour raised the alarm having heard a commotion. He was taken to hospital in a distressed state but when interviewed by officers, he made no comment, a court heard.

Ryding, who had agreed to look after the plants in return for a roof over his head, told a judge how he is still being treated by a cognitive behaviour therapy specialist and a physiotherapist.

Ryding told the court: "The physiotherapist seems to think I have crushed blood vessels in my neck causing dizzy spells and blacking out. She says there is a lot of work to be done.

"I cannot turn my head and I have panic attacks every day. I wake up every day in agony because of moving around in my sleep."

After his evidence Judge Neil Flewitt KC asked his barrister: "Does he understand if he is pulling the wool over my eyes I can have him back and vary my sentence?" Read the full story here.

Thousands raised for LFC fan killed after car mounted kerb

Thousands of pounds has been raised for a Liverpool FC fan who died after a car mounted the pavement outside a takeaway.

Rebecca Steer, 22, died shortly after she and a second pedestrian were struck by a car after it mounted the kerb outside the Grill Out takeaway in Oswestry in Shropshire at 2.50am on Sunday. The second pedestrian who was struck by the vehicle has now been released from hospital.

According to the Mail Online, Rebecca is believed to have been studying criminal justice at the University of Liverpool.

Now, thousands of pounds has been raised for the student, who was described as "the most loving, talented and kind hearted person". A JustGiving page set up on behalf of Rebecca's parents has raised £6,225 so far, which will assist the family.

In a tribute, her family described her as "the most loving, talented and kind hearted person you could ever wish to know". They said: "We are all completely devastated by the loss of our beautiful girl Rebecca. She always had a smile and a laugh that made everybody love her.

“She will be greatly missed by her many friends and family. She was the best daughter, sister, granddaughter and friend anyone could ask for. Rest in Peace beautiful girl.“ Read more here.
