Some may have expected the New Orleans Saints to be sellers at the trade deadline after a 2-5 start. But after advancing to 3-5 with a convincing win against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8, they may turn out to be buyers. New Orleans could use some help at running back, on the defensive interior, and possibly at wide receiver depending on the true nature of the injuries to wideouts Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry. With the trade deadline less than 24 hours away, here is the tradable draft capital the Saints have at their disposal.

The Saints sent their first rounder for this season to the Philadelphia Eagles in the trade that yielded them two first-round selections in the 2022 draft. Those picks turned into wide receiver Chris Olave and offensive tackle Trevor Penning. Olave has been a sensation so far and hopefully Penning will get a chance to get out on the field in the closing stretch of the year if he makes it back from injured reserve following his preseason turf toe injury.
New Orleans sent their sixth-round selection to the Houston Texans for Bradley Roby before last year’s kickoff. The added a sixth-round selection in 2023 after trading away safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson. A trade the Saints may have felt more comfortable making due to the standout performance of Roby, who is now on injured reserve.

The second-round pick from this year was also included in the Saints’ 2022 first-round trade up. They pick up an extra selection in round six in 2024 due from the C.J. Gardner-Johnson trade. Philadelphia currently owns two sixth-round selections, New Orleans will get the worst of the pair.
The Saints also moved the seventh-round selection from 2024 in the 2021 trade to bring Mark Ingram back to New Orleans. A very cheap price to pay to bring in the player that would quickly overtake the franchise’s career rushing yardage record. Ingram is currently expected to miss 3-4 games with an MCL injury, which could lead to another running back trade ahead of the deadline.

Almost status quo for the Saints in 2025. They upgraded their seventh-round selection in 2025 to a sixth-round pick in 2024 in the Gardner-Johnson departure. Hard to say that brings New Orleans anywhere near winning that trade, however.
