UP: Mahav Nala embankment broken in Maharajganj due to heavy rains, many acres of crops submerged, crores of Rupees spent on repair work wasted

Maharajganj: Crores of rupees were spent about a month ago on the repair work of Mahav Nala, but the very first rain has exposed the quality of work. This drain could not even withstand the first rain. The eastern embankment of Mahav Nala was broken in front of Devghatti village, submerging the entire area here. The farmers and villagers are enraged over the situation. The water level is continuously rising posing a threat for dozens of villages to be submerged under water.

The 30-metre wide eastern embankment of Mahav Nala, located near Deoghatti village in front of Vishwambhar Rauniyar's field, was broken on Monday due to heavy rains in Nepal. The Nautanwan block of Maharajganj forms the border with Nepal.

As a result, hundreds of acres of crops of the farmers got devastated.

Incidently, only about a month back as much as Rs.15 crores were spent to repair the same drain but perhaps all went in vain. Many people have accused the concerned authorities of not getting the work done properly.

According to reports, the drain was flowing very high above the water level due to heavy rains in Nepal on Sunday itself. On Monday, the water pressure increased further due to which the drain broke in front of Devghatti village.

The team of Dynamite News reached the spot and took stock of the situation after interacting with the affected people. Paddy crops of farmers of half a dozen villages including Devghatti, Harakhpura, Harpur, Amhwa, Narayanpur have been submerged due to the breach of the Mahav embankment.

Dynamite News was the first to report the breach of Mahav embankment. Reacting to the report of Dynamite News, the District Magistrate on Tuesday reached the spot and reviewed the situation. The DM gave necessary directions and instructions to speed up the relief work.
