Jaunpur: Three criminals involved in murder of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader were arrested in an encounter with the police from Sikrara area of Jaunpur district here in Uttar Pradesh, a senior police officer said here on Tuesday.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Ajay Pal Sharma said that on March 7 district president of BJP Pramod Yadav was shot dead near Bodhapur village. "On Sunday night a tip was received that the assailants were moving towards Mariahun acting on which a checking drive was launched in the area," he said.
He said that during checking on Kathar road the police team spotted an SUV and when signalled to stop its occupants opened fire. "In retaliatory firing one on the accused, Sachin Yadav alias Dewa sustained bullet injury and was arrested," he said.
The SP said that during the combing operation two more accused Vijay Yadav and Chandrashekhar were also arrested. "The police recovered a country-made pistol and live cartridges from the possession of Sachin. An Inspector was hit in his bulletproof jacket during firing by the criminals," he said. (UNI)
