Major changes will be introduced to help people on low incomes. On Friday, September 23, the government announced that there will be new changes put in place for people receiving Universal Credit.
These changes will "help people on low incomes secure more and better paid work", said Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng. However, claimants earning less than the equivalent of 15 hours a week at the National Living Wage could be at risk of their benefits being reduced if they do not take steps to increase their earning, reports The Manchester Evening News.
Around 120,000 claimants will need to take steps to seek more and better-paid work to avoid having their benefits reduced. Those aged over 50 will be given extra time with their work coaches to help combat the economic activity in the over 50s.
