Vice President Kamala Harris is nearing the decision on her running mate, with United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain voicing his support for Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. Fain emphasized that a Harris-Beshear ticket would be formidable, praising both candidates for their dynamic qualities. He also highlighted Walz's strong support for labor, making him a top choice for the union.
However, Fain expressed reservations about Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly. He raised concerns about Shapiro's stance on school vouchers and Kelly's position on the PRO Act, a legislation that extends collective-bargaining rights to independent contractors. Kelly had previously indicated his support for the PRO Act, but with reservations about certain provisions.
Fain has been critical of former President Donald Trump's approach to union workers, accusing him of prioritizing big donors over blue-collar workers. The United Auto Workers recently endorsed Harris, underscoring their influence in the crucial battleground state of Michigan.
