Unexplained death of baby in Somerset – man and woman arrested

  • A man and a woman have been arrested following the unexplained death of a baby in Crewkerne, Somerset .
  • Emergency services were called to a residential property shortly before 2.45pm on 16 August, where the infant was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
  • Avon and Somerset Police confirmed the death is currently being treated as unexplained following an initial forensic postmortem examination.
  • The suspects were arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child and have since been released under investigation.
  • Police have urged the public not to speculate about the circumstances while enquiries remain at an early stage.
