NEW DELHI: The uncertainty surrounding the Indian men's and women's football teams' participation in the upcoming Asian Games in Hangzhou ended on Wednesday. The sports ministry decided to relax the selection criteria to facilitate the entries of both squads in the Asiad, scheduled from September 23 to October 8 in China.
Sports minister Anurag Thakur confirmed through a tweet that the football teams will compete in Hangzhou after the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) had initially refused to clear them citing the government's criteria which stated that only top-8 ranked nations in Asia will get the nod to participate.
