Ukranian MP receives touching letter from Irish eight-year-old that's melting hearts

An eight-year-old Irish child has melted the heart of a Ukrainian MP with a touching letter.

Little Limerick girl Iris sent a heart warming note to Lesia Vasylenko along with some of her own money.

In the note, she wrote: "Dear Ukraine. My name is Iris. I'm really sorry about the war. I'm not from Rusia (sic).

"I'm from Limerick I hope you survive. The money I gave you was all of my own.

"Love Iris. Get better soon."

The donation and heartfelt letter struck a chord with Ms Vasylenko.

The MP tweeted: "An 8-year-old child from Ireland supports #Ukraine. With real action. An example for to follow. #StandWithUkraine"

People rushed to praise the little girl in the comments with one saying: "This is amazing. Children are the best."

Another wrote: "Thousands of Irish have registered to house families from Ukraine. We are here for you."

The letter comes as Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned Russia will have to "raze Kyiv to the ground" before they can take it from the clutches of his people.

The Ukrainian President also said around 1,300 of his troops had lost their lives during the conflict during a news briefing today.

The Russian invasion has intensified in its 17th day as Putin's men sit just 25km from the capital city centre.

Kyiv has accused Russian forces of abducting mayor of Melitopol Ivan Fedorov as they move to a "new stage of terror".

Adviser to Ukraine’s interior ministry, Anton Heraschenko, claimed 10 soldiers had sieged Melitopol’s crisis centre on Thursday, March 10, before putting a bag over Mr Federov's head.

Ukraine officials have now shared CCTV footage which they claim shows the moment their colleague was kidnapped by Putin's men.
