Ukraine Ready For Prisoner Exchanges With Russia

Palestinian prisoners react after being released amid a hostages-prisoners swap deal between Hamas and Israel

Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets has confirmed that he is actively communicating with his Russian counterpart regarding the prisoners of war captured in the recent conflict. Lubinets emphasized that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are adhering to the Geneva Conventions in their treatment of Russian prisoners of war. He stated that the prisoners are being handled in a humane manner, with no reports of torture or violence towards them, unlike the alleged actions of the Russian Armed Forces.

Lubinets mentioned that the captured soldiers are being taken to specialized military camps established by Ukraine in compliance with the Geneva Conventions. He also highlighted that discussions with the Russian counterpart have been initiated to facilitate potential prisoner exchanges. Lubinets expressed Ukraine's readiness to engage in exchange processes based on the principles outlined in the Geneva Conventions.

Priority categories for exchange include the seriously wounded, Ukrainian women, and all individuals currently held in captivity. Lubinets assured that Ukraine is actively providing humanitarian aid and food to civilians affected by the conflict. Additionally, he stated that evacuation corridors will be opened upon request from the local population to ensure their safety.
