Ukraine 'launched biggest counter-offensive since WWII to end Russian barbaric empire'

Ukrainian forces are driving the Russian army from swathes of the country, Kyiv’s military leaders claimed last night.

Troops are said to have regained control of 1,158 square miles of land in a rapid counter-offensive in the east taking a little more than 48 hours.

An aide to president Volodymyr Zelensky said: “Russian Spring? No… A fantastic Ukrainian autumn, the beginning of the end of the Russian barbaric empire.”
