Ukraine and Moldova begin EU talks on joining the bloc

Talks have begun between Ukraine and the European Union about the war-torn country joining the political bloc, with its neighbour Moldova to follow.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, addressing an EU meeting in Luxembourg by video link, said the start of the talks was a historic moment and a significant step for both Kyiv and the EU towards "our shared great victory".
