Mixed weather is forecast for today as some areas enjoy clear skies and a mild start to the weekend while others brace for heavy downpours.
"Persistent and at times heavy rain" will sweep across areas in the far northwest of the UK on Friday, according to the Met Office, while much of the rest of the north will see overcast weather.
Areas in the south will meanwhile stay "dry and bright" with limited cloud cover, but not before forecasters predict a 'widespread sharp frost.'
Temperatures will also take on a milder feel going into the weekend, following a chilly week that saw emergency measures implemented for rough sleepers across a number of major cities.
A daytime high of 11C is forecast across much of the United Kingdom on Saturday, including some areas in the north of Scotland.
Night-time lows will rise to 7C on Friday night, before dropping down slightly to 6C the evening after.
But despite the relatively stable forecast for the next few days, fears are growing of a new 'Beast from the East'-type storm due to current developments in the Earth's atmosphere.
The Met Office has warned that a Sudden Stratospheric Warming (SSW) event is likely to happen before the end of the month, with snow potentially falling for several days in row.
The 2018 winter storm given the 'Beast' nickname saw 22 inches of snowfall in some areas and an estimated £1.2 billion in damage caused.
In a blog post, the Met Office wrote: "The latest forecasts are showing that a major SSW is now likely to take place.
"A major SSW often makes the jet stream meander more, which can lead to a large area of blocking high pressure over northern Europe, including the UK [and Ireland].
"This blocking high pressure can lead to cold, dry weather in the north of Europe, including the UK [and Ireland]."
They added that this does not necessarily guarantee severe wintry weather, with the knock-on effects potentially being "benign" instead.
