Brits are set for heavy rain and thunderstorms today while the outlook is also for a wet weekend with more showers and below average temperatures.
This week the country has been in the grips of a low pressure system with the worst of the storms in the north and west that led to yellow weather warnings by the Met Office for Thursday.
For end of next week and mid-July the prediction is for more settled conditions and temperatures could hit 30C.
But before that there is more rain on the way and also the possibility of travel disruption today from the showers and flooding.
Met Office forecaster Alex Deakin said: “Friday it's another fairly messy day, we are going to start with cloud and rain over north east England and that will spread into north east Scotland and up across the northern isles.
"Then elsewhere, while it may be a dry start to Friday certainly by mid morning heavy showers are going to be breaking out once more.
"Subtle difference on Friday, little more of a breeze, the showers will not be quite as slow moving but again they may be heavy and thundery and may cause some disruption, certainly a lot of spray and surface water on the roads particularly over eastern England and north east Scotland by the afternoon.
"Further west the showers do tend to fade away so things looking a bit drier come the afternoon for Wales, south west England, western parts of Scotland and for a time across Northern Ireland but no, another band of rain is approaching here.
"Temperature wise again we are around about or a touch below average for the time of year, the first of July only high teens in many places.”
The warmest weather is set to be for the south east of the country today where it could peak at 23C and then into Saturday the east is not likely to see showers until the afternoon.
Showers, that will be heavy at times, will move eastwards during the day in a "line of rain" which means that East Anglia could escape the worst of the weather until later on.
Again Mr Deakin said “temperatures are disappointing” over the weekend with “more showers” on Sunday.

Showers dying out for most during evening. Cloud with more persistent rain and brisker winds for Northern Ireland initially, moving eastwards to affect other parts through the night.
Saturday:
Cloud and rain in the north and west at first, with showers breaking out in many places later. Some brighter spells too, the best of any sunshine in the southeast.
Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:
Showers on Sunday, heaviest in the north and east. Becoming more settled into next week and warmer in the south and east, but cloudy and damp in the northwest.
